Community Partnership with the Poquoson, VA Planning Department, Parks and Recreation, and community stakeholders

Strategies for Conserving the Green Infrastructure of Poquoson, VA was created by Univerity of Virginia student consultants with funding from the Virginia Department of Forestry and Forest Service Department of Agriculture.

I worked alongside Tyler Hinkle and Huning Zhou to write the Urban Forest and Habitats policy recommendations and strategies. We focused on aligning recommendations with goals from the Poquoson Comprehensive Plan including;

  • Promote natural amenities and urban forest through engagement efforts that foster civic identity, intergenerational activities, education and recreational opportunities
  • Celebrate Poquoson’s unique character through protection and preservation measures that support environmental resources, and combat pollution, flooding and loss of habitat.

Objectives included recommendations for educational signage, Urban Forestry Management Plan, Planting programs, Engagement efforts, environmental City designations and preservation ordinances.
